The Hon. Dale Butler opens the Arch Byte CII Worlds
July 4, 2006

The Opening Ceremonies for the 2006 Byte CII World Championships moved to the beat of the Gombey dancers and drummers and the energy and enthusiasm of the Hon. Dale Butler, Bermuda's Minister of Community Affairs and Sport. A Sunfish and Laser sailor, he was completely at home amongst the sailors.

John Gardner, Public Relations Officer for the event, kicked off the twilight ceremony with a welcome to all and a sincere word of thanks to the Spanish Point Boat Club's Commodore, Terry Rance, for the superb staging of the Event. He then introduced Preston Hutchings, representing the Title Sponsor, Arch Capital Group Ltd. who welcomed the competitors to Bermuda as part of the continuing, long standing, relationship between the Islanders and the sea.

Then up went the Country flags of Canada, Denmark, Great Britain, Italy, Singapore, United States and Bermuda.

John Gardner then called on Minister Butler to open the Championship. The Minister, in an eloquent and passionate speech, charged the competitors to use the event as a wonderful opportunity to befriend fellow sailors from different countries and cultures and, above all, to enjoy themselves to the fullest while maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship.

Then, in came the Gombey dancers...

and the steel pan drummers who treated the visitors to some real down-to-earth Island beat! Not surprisingly, the Minister was the first out on the field amongst the dancers showing a really good turn of foot! This encouraged some of the competitors to try strutting their stuff before the dancing wound up for food and refreshments. A more pleasant evening could not be imagined!

7:00- Prize Giving, Followed by Dinner.

Entertainment - DJ Razzle Dazzle until 11:00 PM

Menu - Salads: Spinach Salad, Bermuda Potato Salad, Tomato & Avocado Salad

Accompaniments: Corn on the Cob, Assortment of Fresh Vegetables

Entrees from the BBQ: Spare Ribs, Kebab of Wahoo & Tuna, Kebab of Chicken & Pineapple

Desserts: Chocolate Mousse, Profiteroles with Chocolate Sauce, Fresh Fruit Flan

Friends and Family - $30 each, tickets will be available for purchase at the Regatta Office.

*Note: The legal drinking age in Bermuda is 18. All competitors will be issued with wristbands at registration which must be worn through out the competition. The wristbands are colour coded by age; underage consumption of alcoholic beverages will not be tolerated.

During the Regatta Week (Monday, July 3^rd- Saturday, July 8^th)

· Breakfast items will be available for purchase at the Club each morning from 7:30 AM

There will be a choice of pastries, fruit, juices, etc.

Tea and coffee will be available all day at no cost.

· Lunches will be available for purchase at the Club each morning starting with the first day of racing on Tuesday, July 4^th to take out on the water for $5.00 per lunch bag. This will consist of a sandwich, fruit, potato chips and cookie.

Drinks: Orange and Apple juice will be $1.00 per 10 oz bottle and the other soft drinks are $1.50.each.

· Complimentary After-Sailing Pasta will be available to all competitors on Tuesday, July 4^th, Thursday, July 6^th and Friday, July 7^th following the day’s racing at approximately 5:30 PM

Ronstan on board to sponsor the Pre-Worlds Event
June 26, 2006

In lieu of the normal, meaningless, practice race which is run before most major championships, The Ronstan Pre-Worlds are scheduled as a 2-race Series to be sailed on the first day of the Championship prior to the start of racing for the main event. The award for the series is a major grant towards travel, chartering and registration for the 2007 World Championship. Event T shirts now on display

The gorgeous and highly original T shirts, designed for the Championships by Event Committee Manager Judy Gardner, are now on display and will be issued to all the competitors at Registration.

Revision to NOR - Registration extended to June 12th.

In order to accommodate some overseas competitors who are still in the process of arranging sponsorship to attend the event, the Organizing Committee has revised the NOR, extending the Registration deadline to June 12th.

A group of Bermuda's CII sailors were on hand at the Spanish Point Boat Club as Preston Hutchings, SVP and Chief Investment Officer for Arch Capital Group Ltd., presented the company's sponsorsip cheque to the Event Committee.
